Project Update: November 30, 2023

DEER VALLEY RESORT AND PARK CITY MUNICIPAL ANNOUNCE A GROUND-BREAKING COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIP

On November 30, 2023, we announced a proposed public-private partnership with Park City Municipal to reimagine the Snow Park base area. The new Snow Park Village aims not only to enhance the skiing experience but also to contribute to the enduring charm of the region and provide numerous benefits to our close-knit, thriving mountain community.

THE PROCESS

The journey to reach this point has been meticulous and inclusive, involving nine Planning Commission meetings and ten City Council meetings spanning over two years. The community has played an integral role through numerous public comments, attendance at our open houses, and various individual meetings. We continue to welcome feedback as this process unfolds, reaffirming our commitment to involving the community in these decisions.

OUR PRIORITIES AND AGREEMENT HIGHLIGHTS

As part of our commitment to ongoing collaboration, we have worked alongside the City to understand the priorities of Park City’s residents. Through this process, we have defined a shared vision for the future with goals that reflect community feedback.

  • Partnership: $15 Million in funding from Deer Valley for expanded regional transportation infrastructure and support local affordable housing.
  • Mitigation: A 15% – 20 % reduction in parking spaces at Snow Park, further reducing vehicle traffic into the City during peak times.
  • Integration: Improved mountain access from the new portal and base area via U.S. Route 40, bypassing Park City. Additionally, several new chairlifts and a 10-passenger gondola seamlessly connect our expanded terrain with the existing resort, ensuring a more balanced traffic flow and reducing congestion.
  • Experience: Ensuring a world-class experience for residents and visitors, including a pedestrian-friendly base village with new year-round amenities.

NEXT STEPS

With the announcement of the public-private partnership, community engagement remains crucial. There will be two additional opportunities for the community to share feedback or ask questions at the City Council Public Hearings on December 5 and December 14, 2023, with a potential vote.

The possible vote on December 14 will mark a significant milestone, potentially paving the way for the next phase of the Snow Park project to begin. If approved, the Planning Commission would begin their work vetting the specific details of our project and engaging the community as the process resumes, bringing this vision one step closer to reality.

FINAL NOTES AS WE MOVE TOWARDS A DECISION

The Snow Park Village redevelopment is more than a construction project; it is a testament to the power of collaboration and the shared dedication to make our town the best it can be for the future. As the project progresses, it signifies a commitment to the community, environment, traffic management, and enhancing our guests’ experience. Stay tuned as this exciting chapter in our history continues to unfold.
